My life as a musician began at age 14 when, inspired by watching my older brother learn drums, I convinced my mom to get me bass guitar lessons. I fell in love with music, and soon thereafter taught myself guitar and drums.

My teens and 20's were spent playing in rock bands. I was lucky enough to tour and record with some great musicians, but eventually decided to get serious and have a go at music school.

At a ripe 34, I earned my Bachelor of Music (summa cum laude) in composition & guitar from Portland State, where I studied under Bryan Johanson, David Franzen and Jesse McCann. I held 1st chair in PSU’s guitar orchestra and was selected as the solo accompanist to renowned guitarist, William Kanengiser during the Portland performance of his signature piece, “Concerto de Los Angeles”.

My time is currently split between the various pursuits outlined on this website, as well as running a teaching studio in SE Portland, working as a session musician, and playing in my two bands,  Sea Caves and Hans & the Wanted.
