Second in the line of San Diego bands I was in, both chronologically and in measure of contribution, is the mighty Thingy.

Being in Physics was a treat for me because, among other reasons, I was able to play music with Rob Crow, someone I'd greatly looked up to since I was 15 years old. Heavy Vegetable was literally my favorite band when I was in high school and I used to fantasize about being in a band with Rob.

So you can imagine my delight when I was inducted into Thingy, Heavy Vegetable's successor. The honor was great and it put me back on the instrument with which I was and probably still am most comfortable, the bass guitar. Being in Thingy was also great because I met Brent Asbury, the drummer, who became one of my best friends.

We did a lot of work while I was with this band. Played lots of local shows, made a couple trips up to SF, and did a full US tour. It was a ball, and it "put me on the map", so to speak. Being in Thingy got people to listen a little more closely to other things that I was doing, like recording solo stuff.

I was in Thingy right up until I moved to Portland in early 2001. We're very close to finishing the last album, which will be released by Absolutely Kosher whenever it's done.
